I recently had an interesting project where a client wanted me to modify the headboard and footboard of a bed. She had purchased the bed a number of years ago at a garage sale. She loved the bed and did not want to get rid of it but felt that it need to be modernized a bit in its appearance.
On the headboard, she wanted the two decorative posts shortened. I needed to remove the posts and remove each post’s topmost portion. Those top portions were then modified so that they could be reattached to the bed.
The changes to the footboard were a little more involved. There she wanted the decorative posts completely removed along with the railing that connected them. Creating the curved profile at the top of the newly shortened posts was the most challenging part as it had to be done by hand with files and sanding.
I primed the resulting exposed parts of the footboard and returned the parts to the client. She acquired matching paint using some of the leftover scrap pieces and repainted the footboard. The final three photos were provided to me by the client after she was done painting and had the bed made back up.
