Description

I recently built this cabinet to be the base for my standing floor drill press. I based my design on a plan found in the book Tools & Jigs: The Efficient Small Shop (paid link) from Woodsmith. My drill press, a Jet JDP-17, was already on a mobile base so I didn’t use the mobile base in the plan. Instead, I built a box on my mobile base to provide a platform for the cabinet. I also modified the design based on the dimensions of my drill press and changed the number and size of the drawers as well as a few other minor adjustments.

The cabinet is made from 3/4″ Sande Plywood from Home Depot. The drawer internals are made from 1/2″ Sande Plywood. The drawer pulls are Classic Edge 6-5/16 in. (160mm) Center-to-Center Matte Black Drawer Pull. The cabinet was finished with super blonde shellac and the top was finished with garnet shellac.
