Description

This project was my son Brennan’s idea. It was built as a birthday gift for his girlfriend. It holds four, 5″ by 5″ 3d-printed lithophanes. The box that holds the lithophanes can rotate on the base. The base has a 40-watt LED bulb that when lit, displays the lithophane photos.

The box frame and base are made from Peruvian Walnut. The top and bottom of the box are made from baltic birch plywood. In the center of the base, there is a 1-inch dowel that holds the socket for the bulb. The cord travels through a hole down through the center of the dowel and then out through the side of the base.

All parts are finished with super blonde shellac. I also waxed the underside of the bottom panel of the box and the corresponding surface of the base on which it rests. The box spun fine but the addition of the wax made the spinning motion extra smooth.
