Description

It took a while but back in early December, I finished the upper portion of the built-in cabinet in my basement storage room. This project isn’t anything too spectacular but I am really happy with how it turned out. It looks nice and turns a small alcove into a pretty functional storage space.

The majority of the cabinet is made from 3/4″ Sanded Plywood from Home Depot. The doors are made from 1″x3″ Select Pine and 1/4″ Sanded Plywood panels also from Home Depot. I used Everbilt 1/2″ Overlay Soft Close Hinges. For door handles, I used these Satin Nickel Drawer Pulls (3-3/4″ for the lower cabinet and 3″ for the upper cabinet).

I trimmed the top of the upper cabinet similar to the trim at the top of the basement doorways. The lower cabinet is caulked along the edges to close the gaps with the walls. I plan to do that for the upper portion, as well. Other than that, the cabinet is finished.
